Why Work Doesn't Happen At Work

In February 2011, a partner and I completed an assignment that involved taking the video above and turning it into a brochure that could be printed and distributed in our Career Services Center on campus.

The Brochure
for students looking for the "right fit", and future employees, managers, supervisors, and people looking for ways to work more effectively.

I created this tri-fold brochure using Adobe InDesign.  I used the black and blue color scheme to make the brochure stick out from many other materials that might be on the same pamphlet wall.
The biggest challenge was figuring out how to fit a lot of information onto one tri-fold brochure without making it too difficult to read.

Not much research was involved--I just had to learn how to create a tri-fold brochure in InDesign, watch the Jason Fried video, and find out what tactics some companies were using to keep their employees productive.

The Proposal
for Tina Loudon, Director of the Career Services Center

Our original intent had been to create a brochure for use in actual offices to help alter the way they are run.  In the end, though, we realized that perhaps the most effective way to change the operation of a workplace was to influence the population going into the workplace.  Our future employers hire recent graduates to bring new ideas into their offices, and if we can teach these graduating students what makes a good company function, perhaps they can be the catalysts for a workplace revolution.
